Classroom teaching

  • Lectures
    One of the widely used method to deliver knowledge, the lectures help them to develop analytical and conceptual skills along with the application aspect. Lectures are designed on 2 way process, the students are free to express their views and opinions on the subject, healthy and constructive discussions are a part of the lectures, along with problem solving, understanding the feasibile solution theory and decision making process.

The classrooms accommodating lectures are equipped with multimedia projects and computers, which makes the learining process interesting and interactive for the students.

  • Practicals
    The theoretical concepts that are taught are put to test in the practical sessions. The labs are well equipped with modern equipment and gadgets of latest standards.

    The practical work experience provides opportunities which will enable students to understand

  • Workshops, Seminars, Guest lectures
    workshops. Seminars and guest lectures are common feature in the Dar ul umoor curriculum. Corporate professionals, religious leaders and experts are invited periodically to share knowledge and the latest practices.

    Workshops get participants fully involved in the learning process, small and large group discussions, activities & exercises, opportunities to practice applying the concepts that are presented. Workshop is more “hands-on” for the participants. They are going to be working, thinking, doing, processing, creating (maybe physically), up and down moving around, lots of interaction, etc.

    A seminar is, generally, a form of academic instruction, iIt has the function of bringing together small groups for recurring meetings, focusing each time on some particular subject, in which everyone present is requested to actively participate. The idea behind the seminar system is to familiarize students more extensively with the methodology of their chosen subject and also to allow them to interact with examples of the practical problems that always occur during research work. It is essentially a place where assigned readings are discussed.
  • Slide show presentation
    The learning process in Dar Ul Umoor emphasis on the slide show technique to impart more clarity and better understanding of the subject. A slide show is an on-screen presentation of information / ideas presented on slides. A slide show enforces the ideas, comments, solution or suggestions presented in the slide.

    A well organized slide show allows a presenter to fit visual images to an oral presentation. The old adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" holds true, in that a single image can save a presenter from speaking a paragraph of descriptive details. As with any public speaking or lecturing, a certain amount of talent, experience, and rehearsal is required to make a successful slide show presentation. Presentation software is most commonly used for instructional purposes, usually with the intention of creating a dynamic, audiovisual presentation. The relevant points to the entire presentation are put on slides, and accompany a spoken monologue.
  • Brainstorming
    Brainstorming is a popular tool that helps you generate creative solutions to a problem. It is particularly useful when you want to break out of stale, established patterns of thinking, so that you can develop new ways of looking at things. It also helps you overcome many of the issues that can make group problem-solving a sterile and unsatisfactory process.

    Used with your team, it helps you bring the diverse experience of all team members into play during problem solving. This increases the richness of ideas explored, meaning that you can find better solutions to the problems you face. By contrast, brainstorming provides a freewheeling environment in which everyone is encouraged to participate. Quirky ideas are welcomed, and many of the issues of group problem-solving are overcome. All participants are asked to contribute fully and fairly, liberating people to develop a rich array of creative solutions to the problems they're facing.

    Brainstroming sessions are a regular feature in Dar ul Umoor's curriculum.
  • Field work
    One of the important part of learning process in Dar Ul Umoor, Field work learning emphasizes learning activities that are long-term, interdisciplinary and student-centered. Unlike traditional, teacher-led classroom activities, students often must organize their own work and manage their own time in a Field work project. Project-based instruction differs from traditional inquiry by its emphasis on students' collaborative or individual artifact construction to represent what is being learned.

    The core idea of Field work based learning is that real-world problems capture students' interest and provoke serious thinking as the students acquire and apply new knowledge in a problem-solving context. The teacher plays the role of facilitator, working with students to frame worthwhile questions, structuring meaningful tasks, coaching both knowledge development and social skills, and carefully assessing what students have learned from the experience. Advocates assert that project-based learning helps prepare students for the thinking and collaboration skills required in the workplace and in their personal lives.

    Field work requires critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and various forms of communication. Students need to do much more than remember information—they need to use higher-order thinking skills. They also have to learn to work as a team and contribute to a group effort. They must listen to others and make their own ideas clear when speaking, be able to read a variety of material, write or otherwise express themselves in various modes, and make effective presentations.


  • Projects
    Project-based learning, or PBL, is the use of in-depth and rigorous classroom projects to facilitate learning and assess student competence (not to be confused with problem-based learning). Project-based learning is an instructional method that provides students with complex tasks based on challenging questions or problems that involve the students' problem solving, decision making, investigative skills, and reflection that includes teacher facilitation, but not direction. PBL is focused on questions that drive students to encounter the central concepts and principles of a subject hands-on. Students form their own investigation of a guiding question, allowing students to develop valuable research skills as students engage in design, problem solving, decision making, and investigative activities.

    Through Project-based learning, students learn from these experiences and take them into account and apply them to the world outside their classroom. PBL is a different teaching technique that promotes and practices new learning habits, emphasizing creative thinking skills by allowing students to find that there are many ways to solve a problem. Project-based learning creates opportunities for groups of students to investigate meaningful questions that require them to gather information and think critically.
  • Webbased learning
    Web-based training (WBT) is an approach to distance learning in which computer-based training (CBT) is transformed by the technologies and methodologies of the World Wide Web, the Internet, and intranets. Web-based training presents live content, as fresh as the moment and modified at will, in a structure allowing self-directed, self-paced instruction in any topic. WBT is media-rich training fully capable of evaluation, adaptation, and remediation, all independent of computer platform.

    Dar ul Umoor has a long term plan to adapt web based learining sytem, experimental phase of WBT has already started & running in an intial phase.
